An Analysis Of The Contents Of Opera Shows
A definition regarding opera shows is a form of music theater which combines musical composition with stage play where dialogues between the actors are delivered in the form of song and the theatrical performance is taking place in front of a musical ensemble.
When it comes to the etymology of the term, the word “opera” is a plural form of the word “opus”, a word often associated with orchestral musical pieces, and in this case it is used to refer to the integration that takes place in opera shows, for it is the combination of a variety of types of art: music, theater, dancing and scenography, to name but a few.The dialogues that showcase the plot of such a performance are part of the libretto, which is a, true to its term in Italian, a small booklet that is provided upon entering the opera house and it contains every spoken word and direction that a character might move towards during the play, while more often than not the sung parts are omitted from it. The first ever record of their existence dates back to 1598, and is a libretto written by the Italian poet Ottavio Rinuccini for what is considered the first ever work of opera, Jacopo Peri’s Dafne. The content presented in the libretto is closely associated with the type of the opera, and it can be either serious or more comedic.
